Pilgrim of Saint James. Stage 5 – 111 Km.
Reengage with registered from Salamanca
From Salamanca to Tábara (Zamora).
This stage cycling Camino Saint James, just start, a milestone tells us the figure of the remaining kilometers to Santiago … are 444.
Stage of endless sections of land consolidation, with its perpendicular tracings. Direction Zamora, we advance to the nearby Aldeaseca de la Armuña. Starting to familiarize ourselves with the tracks of land consolidation, we face a small steep slope and, without anything more remarkable, we arrive at Castellanos de Villiquera.
Concentrated on the horizon (in which stands the tower of the church of Santa Elena) and the floor of the track (highlighted by the traces of tractors, locals and other pilgrims), we will arrive at Calzada de Valdunciel.
Until The Cube of the Land of Wine, distant 20 km, we will not find another place where we supply. The N-630 imposes its law, forcing us to travel through it for much of this stretch of twenty kilometers characterized by the absence of intermediate locations.
We will cross the road that goes to the castle of Buen Amor, although we continue straight on the Camino. After crossing the provincial border with Zamora, we reach the crossroads that goes to El Cubo de la Tierra del Vino.
We left El Cubo, returning to the old road. We cross the bridge over the San Cristóbal stream, after which we wait for more than 5 km per track and a long straight line arising as a result of land consolidation. The route begins to descend gently, making the presence of vineyards more evident. After passing a couple of modern miliarios and crossing a road, we entered Villanueva de Campeán.
We cross over Los Barrios stream and continue straight on the track. In the background we will see the town of San Marcial, which we leave on our left. The Way ascends to a hill behind which Zamora is already visible, still distant 11 km.
With Zamora already at our feet, we descend down the street of Fermoselle, already advancing parallel to the bank of the Douro River. We save the river by the medieval bridge (still remains some remains of the old bridge) and enter the Roman Ocelo Duri.
We take the ZA-900, where is the cross of King Don Sancho and a stele that marks the remaining kilometers to Santiago … 377. The landscape of the stage is again summarized here in a horizon crossed by long straight lines, flanked by the fields of wheat of the Land of Bread.
In this way, we continue along the infinite straight of a new concentration track, tired of plain and loose pebbles. We leave Montamarta and take a path that goes down to the tail of the Ricobayo reservoir.
